EEG Spectrum International, Inc.'s Comprehensive Course in Neurofeedback is considered to be the best clinical training in the field. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss the professional prerequisites for the courses and for the equipment.
The 4-day course Neurofeedback in a Clinical Practice is an intensive course designed primarily for therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other experienced health practitioners. Neurofeedback is a very powerful technique and should only be used by qualified individuals. The course assumes that you have some familiarity with a variety of disorders, and have some proven competence in being able to assess, recognize, and deal with a variety of clinical conditions, regardless of the population that you may typically deal with.
Neurofeedback affects the whole brain. The person desiring peak performance training may have bi-polar tendencies or be subject to migraines and/or depression. Consequently, clinicians should be able to recognize potential issues and be able to deal with them.
The 4-Day course is a prerequisite for the advanced training courses: Alpha-Theta, Skills Enhancement, Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology, ADD, and Working with Peak Performers.
Those wishing to enroll in this course should have a Masters Degree (a Bachelors Degree is acceptable with some reservations) and meet the following eligibility criteria:
LICENSED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
M.D.s and D.O.s
PhD or Masters level licensed health professional whose area of competency includes mental or behavioral health, cognitive training, chronic pain, or other appropriate experience, such as working with rehab or neurologically impaired patients. LCSW's, MFCC's, and other related licensed counselors fall into this group. Backgrounds could also include performance training or stress management programs.
RN's are eligible if their state license allows them the right to practice independently, and if there is a record of significant relevant experience. The legal requirement for nurses to have a Masters Degree to practice privately varies from state to state.
Chiropractors who have experience with neurological problems, chronic pain, or other related areas.
Masters Level Licensed Speech therapists.
Other health professionals -- Dentists, Podiatrists, Pharmacists, PTs, and OTs are eligible if they have significant experience in related areas.
NON-LICENSED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
If you currently work for a qualified licensed health professional or health institution who wants to incorporate Neurofeedback into a practice, you are eligible to attend.
Experienced but non-licensed individuals providing peripheral biofeedback (EMG, temp, GSR, respiration, etc) may enroll but may need to associate with a licensed health professional in order to practice.
OTHER PROFESSIONALS
If you are not a licensed health professional but you have significant experience and/or education in related disciplines, we would need to understand briefly your related experience and educational background before allowing enrollment. We will evaluate exceptions on a case by case basis.
If you have intense personal interest and some knowledge or experience in related areas, but don't have the depth of experience or training to meet the standards above, then we encourage you to find a qualified health professional in your area who is also interested in Neurofeedback and who could provide you the backup and support you would need to provide a more complete service and allow you to operate under their license.
EQUIPMENT CONSIDERATIONS
The Neurofeedback equipment currently used during the course for the 3-4 afternoons of practicums is provided by EEG Spectrum Systems. The core of this course is the neurophysiological model and the fundamentals of applying these new techniques intelligently -- the equipment and software is used as a demonstration tool. Other systems are available in the market. Note that EEG Spectrum Systems, the software distributor, has a right to choose which qualified professionals it will sell equipment to.
