Established during the 1995-96 school year at the Enrico Fermi School for the Performing Arts, a K-6 elementary school, this project has successfully utilized EEG Biofeedback technology as a remedial strategy for children with attentional, learning and behavioral difficulties. To date, nearly one hundred such children have participated in the project, most of whom have experienced significant benefit from this type of training. Teachers, parents, administrators, and the children themselves have been unanimous in their enthusiasm for the program. Biofeedback Consultants, Inc., has developed and administered this project since its inception, and is now overseeing plans for its expansion in the 1998-99 school year to other schools in the Yonkers City School District. Our staff includes specialists holding EEG Biofeedback Certification from the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA) who possess broad-based experience with various forms of EEG Neurotherapies in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions. In Yonkers, children participate in their EEG sessions during the school day the same as they would any other related service, such as Speech Therapy, Remedial Reading, or Psychological Counseling. It is designated as a form of Computer-Assisted Instruction for remedial, developmental and enrichment purposes. Numerous scientific studies conducted since the early 1970's, as well as thousands of clinical case histories, have provided significant evidence of the effectiveness of EEG Biofeedback. In order to establish more firmly a scientifically acceptable basis for its efficacy, BCI, in cooperation with Joel Lubar Ph.D. of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Judith Lubar L.C.S.W. of the Southeastern Biofeedback Institute, and Dennis Carmody Ph.D. of St. Peter's College, is designing a large-scale controlled research study utilizing EEG Biofeedback in remediating the symptoms of ADD/ADHD, beginning in September of 1998.
